Rudolf Steiner referred to the numerous circular designs he made as “seals,” a term that means to impress, to close securely, and to give a vow of secrecy or silence. Strictly speaking, a seal is not necessarily round but most often appears as such. Steiner created many seal-mandalas designed with a similar intention to traditional mandalas ("essence container"); to bring macrocosmic content into a microcosmic form.
